Doll’s World: XIII Solo Exhibition

This exhibition explores the niche experiences of Black-American girlhood in the Digital Age and aims to honor the evolution of style and femininity through the context of hyper culture and consumerism. Bringing artifacts and media from their inner world to life, Doll’s World celebrates the art of performing femininity, freedom of expression and international representation.

While notably touching on the cultural cross-sections of Black-American and East Asian art and fashion, XIII creates an environment that blends nostalgia with futurism, as well as connecting a range of differing lifestyles.

The concept of nuance and juxtaposition play a large role in the meaning of works, as well as in the materials and media used. XIII’s process for creating works involve a sort of back and forth conversation between traditional and digital art-making. A preliminary sketch for a piece might start in one particular format, while the final work could be in a completely medium.

For Doll’s World, XIII is giving themselves permission to create in anyway that feels natural, letting the work take on a life of its own.

Thank you for traveling to Doll’s World!
